Find out more about the history of Fircroft

To celebrate the centenary of Fircroft College, a special commemorative booklet has been produced which tells of the fascinating story of this Birmingham institution, with proceeds going to the Fircroft College Centenary Appeal.

‘A history of Fircroft College of Adult Education’ begins with the founding of the College in 1909 by George Cadbury Junior, who wanted to help educate working people in Birmingham. It covers all the key points in history – including how the College was used as a hospital during the First World War, how it was ahead of its time in welcoming students from overseas, how it almost went out of existence in the 1970’s and how it recovered and grew to become the successful college it is today. The booklet also contains a foreword by prominent local historian Carl Chinn, who taught at the College in the 1980s.
