In June this year we reported how Fiona
Larden, Principal of Fircroft College, had been awarded an OBE for
services to adult education in the Queen’s birthday honours.
Fiona finally made the happy trip to Buckingham Palace to receive her
honour on Friday 27th November, accompanied by her husband Steve. After
arriving at the Palace in the morning and some stringent security
checks, Fiona and other recipients were briefed in the Picture Gallery
before being led through to the Grand Ballroom, where the ceremony
itself took place. |

In the absence of the Queen, who was
overseas on official duty, Fiona was awarded her OBE by HRH Prince
Charles. The ceremony closed with a rendition of ‘God Save the Queen’ and
a performance of classical music.
Fiona says, “All the palace staff
were extremely friendly and Prince Charles was very interested to hear
about Fircroft and what we do. It was one of the proudest days of my
life – this award is not just for me but for the whole College.”
After their trip to the Palace, Fiona and Steve celebrated with dinner
and a trip on the London Eye!
