Voluntary groups benefit from Fit4Purpose project
January
2010 saw the completion of the Fit4Purpose project - a
tailored package of support for ten local voluntary and
community groups on the Kings Norton three Estates,
delivered by Fircroft College along with SWBCA (South
West Birmingham Community Association).
Funded
by New Deal for Communities the project ran for seven
months, with the aim of securing the future of these
groups and the contribution they make to the
regeneration of the area.
The
project has been hailed a success by many of the groups
who benefited. Sam Akintoye at BLISS youth group
commented,
“The
Fit4Purpose project has been one of the most beneficial
for community groups in Kings Norton. The delivery by
Fircroft College has been exceptionally good as they
have provided brilliant knowledge sharing and learning
atmosphere as well as dedicated members of
staff offering a consistently professional and friendly
support".

Fircroft at the forefront of technology
Fircroft College has won national recognition for the way it
uses digital technology, computers and the web to help
its learners succeed, after being accepted as a member
of the prestigious Technology Exemplar Network. This is
a national group of further education colleges and
skills training bodies which promote and shares
innovative and excellent use of technology.
Success
in being appointed to the network is a huge achievement
for Fircroft, as only 61 out of more than 220 applicants
across the country were selected. It recognises the
strength of Fircroft’s commitment to transforming its
teaching, learning and management through the use of
digital technology.
The
Technology Exemplar Network was launched in 2008 to help
colleges and other learning and training organisations
use technology more effectively by sharing best
practice. It is led by Becta – the government’s
educational technology agency – and the Learning and
Skills Council (LSC).

You may remember from last June’s enewsletter that
Principal of Fircroft, Fiona Larden, had been awarded an
OBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list.
Find out here how Fiona got on
when she visited Buckingham Palace at the end of

Date for your diary – Fircroft student reunion!
To
celebrate one hundred years of Fircroft College, we will
be inviting ‘Firkers’ past and present to a special
student reunion on Sunday 8th August 2010.
We’re hoping this will be a great occasion and a chance
for Fircroft alumni to catch up with old friends and
reminisce about their time at the college.
If
you’re a former Fircroft student and would like to come
to the event, keep an eye on the website for more
details in the coming months. In the meantime, put the
date in your diary. |
