This is an exciting new role in an “outstanding” college. We need a suitably
qualified and experienced adult educator who specialises in Literacy and is able
to contribute to developments across the college.
We are expanding this post from 0.5 on the retirement of the previous
post-holder. Half the week will continue to be spent teaching Study Skills and
offering additional support to individuals on our Access to HE course (reading,
writing and possibly language). In addition you will take on the short
residential courses we have developed leading to the National Literacy Test.
We are planning major changes to the curriculum for 09/10. Functional skills
will be central to this, so you will have a key role in helping us make the
change.
Skills for Life was judged “good” at our last inspection, which isn’t good
enough in a college which is otherwise “outstanding”. As the only Literacy
specialist you will work with our Skills for Life Co-ordinator (a Maths
specialist) to embed Skills for Life across the college.
This is a rare opportunity to join our permanent teaching staff and really make
a difference.
