Fircroft College has joined an elite group of education providers after being awarded prestigious QIA Learning and Skills Beacon status at a special ceremony held in London.

Fiona Larden, Principal, received the award from David Lammy MP, Minister for Skills, at the ceremony hosted by Quality Improvement Agency (QIA) on Monday 7 July.

QIA Learning and Skills Beacon status provides public recognition of the excellence and innovation which exists in the further education and skills sector. It celebrates learning providers that deliver outstanding teaching and learning and is for providers funded by the Learning and Skills Council and inspected by the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills (Ofsted). As a new beacon college, Fircroft College will have the responsibility of promoting educational excellence, sharing skills and expertise with other colleges and providers to help raise standards throughout the sector.

David Lammy MP said. “I know how much effort and commitment it takes for colleges and providers to achieve such high levels of leadership, management and performance across the whole range of their activities. Beacon status is public recognition of that excellent performance.”

Fiona Larden commented, “This award comes less than a year after we received a grade 1 ‘outstanding’ Ofsted report and is a tribute and credit to the hard work and dedication shown by staff, students, governors and everyone involved with the College. Fircroft celebrates its centenary next year and this news sees us looking forward to the future with great optimism.”
