Fircroft College has just been awarded Investors in People Gold accreditation, which only 16% of applicants achieve.

IIP’s report highlights the major transformation that has taken place at the college, in terms of our structure, roles, capabilities, policies and above all culture. It links our success to 5 key strengths:

  • A very strong and consistent set of values. We reflect on these in our meetings and celebrate them in our awards.
  • Clear leadership and direction. Followed through by a talented group of middle managers.
  • High levels of staff engagement. 96% of employees now say they are satisfied with our culture
  • A cohesive set of organisational strategies. These all focus on developing and improving.
  • Pride and passion in delivering an outstanding student experience. We came top college in the county in the 2018 National Learner Satisfaction Survey

You can learn from the people who led this change on a special ILM Level 5 Leadership and Management Award starting in November. Over 3 days we’ll add Fircroft’s own insights to the recognised models for “Becoming an Effective Leader” and “Leading Innovation and Change”.

The Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Level 5 Award in Leadership and Management is designed for practising middle managers. It helps you to develop your skills and experience, improve your performance and prepare for senior management responsibilities.

What will you learn?

Our Award aims to increase your effectiveness as a leader in the context of change and improvement:

Leading innovation and change. We will help you to:

Understand the need for innovation and change management: choosing between incremental and step change.

  • Propose innovative solutions to improve organisational performance: techniques for analysis, then generating options and evaluating their viability.
  • Lead and manage change: creating a change management plan to meet stakeholder expectations; then implement and monitor progress against targets.

Becoming an effective leader. We will help you to:

Understand your own ability to fulfil key responsibilities of the leadership role: using a range of leadership styles and developing your emotional intelligence.

  • Evaluate your ability to lead others: setting and communicating direction; reviewing how you motivate, delegate and empower others; planning how to continue developing your ability to lead.
