After several weeks in lockdown due to Coronavirus, with all staff and students safely set up digitally to allow for remote working at home, the college felt it was a great opportunity to assess the pantry. There was a lot of food that would be passing their “eat by” dates in the next few months so what better way to deal with that than donate it to a local charity? The college was delighted to work with The Real Junk Food Project Birmingham to donate the food along with hundreds of daffodils from the grounds to brighten their clients’ day just before Easter. Mel Lenehan, Principal and CEO said “We are thinking very hard about those in need at the moment and especially during what would normally be a few days of rest and relaxation over Easter. We are so pleased to be able to play a small part in helping these amazing organisations working hard to ensure people do not go hungry at this global time of crisis. Food is a basic human right. It’s not a privilege.”

The Real Junk Food Project Birmingham are working in partnership with the Active Wellbeing Society, Birmingham City Council and other organisations to ensure donations are allocated to people in Birmingham who need them.
