Our Impact Action on Climate Change The college is alarmed at the rapid acceleration of global climate change. As a further education college, we embrace lifelong learning, having a collective aim of staff and students helping people to help themselves to progress and create a better future. The prospect of their future being much more of a challenge because of the rapidly progressive global environmental issues, in a world that already carries many other challenges, is deeply concerning. Here Mel Lenehan, Principal and CEO, outlines the devastation being caused around the world as part of global climate change, and the many ways the college is playing its part in helping to encourage change before it’s too late. College Declares Climate and Ecological Emergency Sustainability Survey In November 2020 a staff survey was conducted to identify understanding and thoughts around climate change and to gauge interest in a staff action working group to identify new activities, raise awareness and monitor existing actions. The results of the survey include: 88% of staff agreed they are interested or very interested in climate change 92% of staff agreed they felt that climate change is a very real threat to current life and the next generation 92% of staff felt that action on climate change and sustainability should be a cross-college approach 80% of staff agreed that sustainability and climate change should be at the heart of the college’s vision and offer See the results of the survey here! We will be working with staff to introduce positive changes to the way we work, and our offer, throughout 2021 and beyond.
