What a September we’ve had! Not only are we preparing to welcome old and new faces in our beloved college, we’ve also hosted a number of events. We’re not ones to shy away from a challenge, and despite the fact that we’ve had one heck of a September, we’re delighted to share with you exactly what we’ve been up to…

Our Annual Garden Party

As our Principal Mel Lenehan said ‘this is the highlight of our calendar’. And it truly was. The annual Garden Party 2019 was a smashing day, and a true celebration of all that you, our students, have achieved over the last academic year. It’s fair to say that you all work exceptionally hard. Many students come here because they want to progress, others come here because they’ve been told they have to. Irrespective of their reasons, our students give everything they have (and some!) to their new programme of study.

So, when the Garden Party rolled around, we were thrilled to hand out a number of awards.

This year, we handed out the following awards to:

  • Fircroft Peer Support Award: Chrissie Butterworth
  • Fircroft Champion Award: Eddie Roche
  • Fircroft Champion Award: Paul Madan
  • Fircroft Critical Thinking Award: Jess Crathorne
  • Fircroft Diversity Champion Award:  Jake Bird
  • Fircroft Attendance Award: Vicky Dixon
  • Fircroft Digital Champion: Melonie Williamson-James
  • Fircroft Maths and English Award: Scott Ashmore
  • Fircroft Pre-Access student of the year Award: Toni Wiggins
  • Fircroft Access Student of the year: Tashauna Duffus

Congratulations to you all!

Not forgetting our staff either. Without blowing our own trumpets (OK, we are a little) our team at Fircroft are committed, dedicated and hard working, many often going above and beyond so that our students get the right levels of support and guidance, while they are studying with us.

Our staff awards went to:

  • Fircroft Rising Star: Hannah Mohammed
  • Fircroft Team Player: Scott Thompson
  • Inclusion Role Model Award: Nay Yendell
  • Inspirational Colleague Award: Angela Bate
  • Exceptional Contribution to Fircroft College Award: Alex Jarvis
  • Exceptional Contribution to Teaching Award: Mandy Gutsell

A huge thank you to Facilities and to the Catering team for ensuring that the day ran smoothly, and everyone was suitably fed and watered. A special thanks to Scarlett Ward for her moving poetic performance, and for leaving us inspired to make positive change.

A wonderful day was had by all and a wonderful reflection of the hard work from both our students and our staff alike.

Alumni Event

What a wonderful day we had for our Alumni. We welcomed faces from the past, and partners, to showcase our college for a day of reflection and workshops.

Laura Broderick came in and encapsulated the stories from our alumni in this amazing piece for our heritage.

This wonderful piece showcases our past, present and future as well as looking at our impact in the wider community.

When Canada came to Fircroft…

We also welcomed Tony Dean to our college. Tony is a former student of Fircroft, and now the Senate of Canada and Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto. A real pleasure to welcome him back after 44 years!

We hope that you have enjoyed September as much as we have, and we’d be delighted to hear your feedback if you attended any of the events.

Keep your eyes peeled on our social media channels for further events.

We have two events lined up in October:

15th October for Short Course Open Day

10th October for Access (and Pre-Access) Open Day

If you’re interested in attending, click here and book your space or by contacting Admissions on 0121 472 0116.

We hope to see you soon!
