This Award highlights the need to change and innovate, particularly at the moment. You will analyse the position of your own organisation, identifying  opportunities  and barriers to change, then learn a range of techniques to plan that. We look particularly closely at what motivates people to engage and perform. You will practice your report writing skills in presenting this work.

Please note: If you are enrolled onto the ILM Leadership and Management Level 3 Award in September/October 2025 and you complete it successfully. and you also apply for, and are enrolled, onto this course as well, you will receive an ILM Level 3 Certificate on successful completion of both courses

About the Course

This Award is a great opportunity for you to step away from your working life for 2 weekends and really reflect on your situation and your skills as a manager.

We will cover 4 units and achieving these successfully leads to the Level 3 Award:

  1. Understanding innovation and change in an organisation
  2. Planning change in the workplace
  3. Motivating to improve
  4. Writing for business

The course is taught by an experienced manager, using well recognised models and ideas. You will also learn from other students and the different sectors they work in. You become a student member of the Institute of Leadership and Management with access to their professional resources for 6 months.

The areas we will cover include:

  • The benefits of innovation and change for an organisation
  • How to overcome barriers to innovation and change
  • Planning, monitoring and reviewing change projects
  • Financial  factors to consider
  • Theories of motivation relevant to your workplace
  • How to increase employee engagement, motivation and performance
  • The importance of communication
  • Effective report writing

By the end of the end of the course you will have:

  • Carried out an environmental and organisational analysis
  • Identified opportunities for change in your organisation
  • Used techniques for planning change
  • Written a persuasive report with recommendations

Who is this course for?

This course is for anyone who is currently in a management role (paid or unpaid) or who has previous management experience.

Entry Requirements

  • You need to be currently working in the role of a manager/supervisor/team leader.  Or have previous experience of being in one of these roles and connections with a named organisation you can write about.
  • You will be required to demonstrate you are able to write assignments at a Level 3
  • You will need a computer and internet access to work independently between your weekends and to submit your assignments
