This course focuses on the role that media in all its different forms plays in our everyday lives. Through the course, we will ask questions about how we interact with media such as news, and advertising, and how our identities and experiences are affected by media. The course will consider how important social issues are addressed in the media, and how media changes with society.

This course is ideal for anyone interested in further study in social sciences and humanities or future careers in marketing, media and publishing.

During this course we will consider different ways of understanding the role of media in everyday life and we will look at examples from a range of different types of media such as news, advertising and film.  We will also consider important current issues and explore how these are represented in different media formats.

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • understand different views of the role of media in everyday life
  • analyse examples of media in different forms
  • explore how social issues and changes in society can be seen in different forms of media.

Entry Requirements

You must be working at Level 1 Literacy, or above
