Understanding Dementia

This course is ideal for you if you would like to know more about dementia, how it can affect people, how dementia is diagnosed and how to work with people who have dementia.

Dementia is an umbrella term used to cover a range of different types of dementia and this course will provide an opportunity to explore some of the different types of dementia such as Alzheimers disease, vascular dementia and Lewy Bodies dementia. You will gain an insight into how dementia is diagnosed and the signs and symptoms associated with each type of dementia, as well as  looking at the parts of the brain that are affected.

This course is open to anyone but may be of particular interest to those interested in gaining employment or a volunteering role within the care sector, looking after elderly individuals.

You will learn:

  • An understanding about different types of dementia
  • Signs and symptoms of different types of dementia
  • How dementia is diagnosed
  • The impact of dementia on the family and the individual.

You must be working at literacy level 1
