Level

Level 2

This course is for you if you are working or volunteering or you have immediate plans to work. This course is designed so that you can use what you learn at your workplace or in your role as a volunteer.

This course will explore how issues of equality, diversity and inclusion impact on our employment experiences. We will consider the meaning of equality, diversity and inclusion and the relevance of these ideas to the workplace, as well as gaining awareness of legal responsibilities relating to equality and inclusion. Current research will be used to inform discussions about the diversity of different workplaces, and we will also think about the role of micro-aggressions in workplace experiences.

You will work with the other students on the course in large and small groups, using discussion and practical activities as well as written tasks. The course involves use of case studies and research to help us to consider the role and impact of equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

By the end of the course, you will:

  • Understand the meanings of the terms equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Understand how issues of equality, diversity and inclusion affect the workplace
  • Understand legal requirements relating to equality and inclusion in the workplace
  • Understand microaggressions and marginalisation in the workplace relating to social characteristics such as gender identity, ethnicity and social class.
