This course at Entry 3 and Level 1 aimed at giving you essential skills and building your confidence in the following areas:

Entry Level 3

Understanding Shapes 

This course begins by focussing on the language and characteristics of everyday shapes before progressing onto practical uses of area and perimeter in everyday life; for example calculating the materials needed for home DIY projects.

Handling Data 

This course will show you how to devise a questionnaire, collect data, present it in graphs and charts and then interpret the results in a meaningful way.

Understanding Fractions 

Fractions, decimals and percentages are all around us in our lives, but many people struggle to understand them. We will help you overcome this through practical demonstrations based on real life situations – this course makes fractions fun, lively and interesting!

Level 1

At Level 1, you will cover the basic concepts required for work and everyday life. The main areas of study are  Numbers, Fractions, Decimals and Percentages, Measures, Shape and Space, and Handling Data.

On this course you will learn how to:

  • Carry out calculations with positive and negative numbers to solve everyday problems, including strategies to check answers 
  • Evaluate expressions and make substitutions in given formulae in words and symbols, following the order of operations to solve real-life problems 
  • Understand and calculate using ratios and proportion to solve everyday problems. 
  • Understand and calculate using fractions, decimals and percentages to solve everyday problems including probability  Develop calculator and non-calculator skills
