This course is for people whose native language is English.

Functional Skills English Level 1 or Level 2 are fully recognised qualifications in English required by employers as well as colleges and universities. The purpose of the Functional Skills English qualification is to prepare you for work, study and life. Our skilled and qualified teachers will guide you through this course and completely understand that for many people areas such as spelling and grammar can be a challenge. Our teachers are passionate and patient, they want you to love English as much as they do and will do all they can to make the lessons interesting and supportive to get you the qualification you need.

Please do not worry if you have dyslexia or struggle in other ways with reading and writing, we can help you achieve in this empathetic adult environment. This course is an ideal starter course for people who want to improve their knowledge, increase their employment opportunities or achieve certain qualifications and who do not have a GCSE at grade C or above in English, or an equivalent qualification such as a Level 2 Functional Skills in English.

Entry Requirements

For Level 1 English – A Certificate of Entry Level 3 English is to be provided on the application or if you are unable to produce a certificate, you can take an entry test to have your level of English assessed.

For Level 2 English – Certificate of Level 1 English to be provided on the application or if you are unable to produce a certificate, you can take an entry test to have your level of English assessed.

Progression

Once you achieve the Level 1 you can progress to the Level 2 qualification.

The Level 2 qualification allows you to progress in employment or into higher levels of education including university.
