This course is for middle managers who are ready to progress further. It will help you to solve complex problems and use your role to develop the culture of your organisation. You will consolidate your management skills and experience, develop the capabilities and personal awareness you need to be a leader and accredit your experience with a nationally recognised qualification.

You will be in college every 2 weeks and in between those dates, you will either be completing online classes or have independent study time.

Learning Outcomes

You will cover the following modules;

Solving problems by making effective decisions in the workplace

  • Being able to analyse a complex problem in the context of the workplace
  • Being able to apply decision-making techniques when assessing possible solutions
  • Being able to plan how you will implement the solutions

Understanding the organisational culture and context

  • CoveringUnderstanding the culture and context of the organisation

Understanding the management role to improve management performance

  •  Understanding the specific responsibilities of middle managers in enabling an organisation to achieve its goals
  • Understanding how communication and interpersonal skills affect managerial performance in the workplace
  • Be able to assess personal development opportunities to improve own managerial performance


    Entry Requirements 

    • Your English must be good enough to write detailed reports and plans. You can demonstrate this on your application by showing you have an English qualification at L2 or have achieved other qualifications at Level 3 or above. Or you can take Fircroft’s initial assessment.
    • You need to be an experienced manager who has been responsible for a particular area of the business. For the assignments, you need to write in detail about a real organisation so you need to be working there in a paid or voluntary capacity, or have worked there in the recent past.
    • You will need a computer and internet access at home along with a microphone, speakers and a camera installed.

    Following the completion of this certificate, you could apply for an ILM Level 5 qualification in Leadership and Management, or use this qualification for career advancement in your chosen industry sector.

    Mandy Gutsell has 30 years of experience of delivering a range of courses in Colleges, Community settings (Voluntary/Charities) and the Public Sector. She has managed her own business for the last 20 years offering Coaching, Therapy, Supervision and Training. Mandy is also a Qualified Mental Health First Aider and an MHFA England Instructor member.
