Our Courses Find Courses Talk English Courses Talk English Fircroft College have secured additional funding to continue delivering the award winning Talk English Programme in Birmingham from April 2019 to March 2020. We have just released our new course timetable for January - March 2020, please see below! Funded by the Ministry of Housing , Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) Talk English is a volunteer led project that offers free English, for Speakers of other Languages (ESOL) at Beginner level (Pre Entry/Entry 1) for people with little to no levels of English within the local area. From September 2017 to April 2019 we delivered a number of courses and activities around Birmingham, with over 50 volunteers trained on our free teacher training programme to deliver ESOL and 440 learners engaged! Talk English Timetable January - March 2020 There are several ways you can get involved with the project: Volunteer with us as a Volunteer ESOL Tutor or Friend. Please register your interest here ESOL Progression: Speaking and Listening Entry Please contact our Admissions team for further details. This course will help you to build on your English speaking and listening skills. You will take part in role plays, presentations and engage in a variety of discussions. There will be a focus on formal and informal language in different contexts. The course will also support your listening skill where you will focus on listening for ideas, meaning and detail. ESOL Progression: Reading Entry This course is designed to help you to build on your reading skill. You will focus on practising reading strategies through a variety of texts. You will also explore language within texts and learn how to identify and use language correctly. There will be a strong focus on grammar to enable you to use the English language more accurately. ESOL Progression: Writing Entry This course will build on your writing skill. You will explore a variety of interesting written texts throughout the course. There will be a focus on formal and informal language in different contexts. You will produce a range of written texts in different styles for different purposes. There will be a strong focus on grammar to enable you to use the English language more accurately. Talk English: ESOL CPD Level 2 New dates to be published soon These sessions will focus on developing skills and knowledge around key ESOL teaching areas including lesson planning, differentiation and resource development. These CPD sessions are for volunteers that are a part of our Talk English Project, if you are interested in joining the project as a volunteer please email [email protected] Talk English: Volunteer Teaching Level 2 New dates to be published soon. Fircroft College is delivering Talk English courses and activities across the Birmingham area. Last year we supported over 125 people in the local community to learn English through training 20 volunteers to deliver the Talk English programme. What's more Fircroft College work with local community partners to host courses and reach learners. Fircroft College provides the free fast track training programme for Talk English volunteers who to upskill and gain employability skills.
