The Institute of Leadership and Management Level 2 Certificate in Team Leader Skills 

This course is a practical team leader development programme that is aimed at those who are new to team leading or who wish to get into a team leading role.  The course covers core knowledge and skills to support team leaders, enabling them to step into their role confidently, undertake key responsibilities, communicate effectively and motivate their team and individuals to maximise performance.

This course is designed for people who wish to improve their management and leadership skills.  The course covers core knowledge and skills to support leaders, enabling them to improve on their skills in the role, undertake key responsibilities, communicate effectively and motivate their team and individuals to maximise performance.  The course is delivered through blended learning and includes 4 weekends of taught learning as well as classes being held on some Tuesday evenings along with an element of self-study.

The Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Level 5 Award in Leadership and Management

This course is designed for practising middle managers. It helps to develop skills and experience, improve performance and prepare for senior management responsibilities.


What students will learn

Our Award aims to increase students' effectiveness as leaders in the context of change and improvement:

Leading innovation and change

This module will help students to:

  • Understand the need for innovation and change management: choosing between incremental and step change.
  • Propose innovative solutions to improve organisational performance: techniques for analysis, then generating options and evaluating their viability.
  • Lead and manage change: creating a change management plan to meet stakeholder expectations; then implement and monitor progress against targets.

Becoming an effective leader

This module will help students to:

  • Understand their own ability to fulfil key responsibilities of the leadership role: using a range of leadership styles and developing   emotional intelligence. 
  • Evaluate the ability to lead others: setting and communicating direction; reviewing how to motivate, delegate and empower others; planning how to continue developing the ability to lead.
