This course will give you an awareness of the different types of abuse or multiple abuses that someone may be experiencing or have experienced, understanding that domestic abuse can cover a range of different types of abuse.

You will also gain an understanding of the impact that abuse can have on the individual and any possible barriers or challenges faced by ongoing or multiple types of abuse.

There will be an opportunity to explore different strategies and skills that can be implemented to support individuals dealing with abuse issues.

This course is useful for those interested in supporting others, particularly people who have been victims of domestic abuse. This may be in paid employment or in a volunteering or support capacity.

This course can be used as a stepping stone to apply for some of our other Careers and Volunteering courses.

By the end of the course you will have learnt about the following :

  • Understanding different types of abuse
  • Knowing how abuse can impact on individuals
  • Understanding the additional barriers and challenges created by ongoing or multiple types of abuse
  • Knowing strategies and skills that can be used to support those with abuse issues  
  • Knowing how and where to refer individuals for additional support

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.  A good level of English and the emotional well-being capable of discussing different types of abuse is needed.
