This is a knowledge-only Award if you are starting your journey as a workplace Assessor and includes information about the role of an Assessor or it’s for you if you need to know about assessment practice but you are not currently practicing. This course can be seen as a starting point for aspiring Assessors or it can be a professional development qualification for managers, HR or quality assurance personnel.
You will work on knowledge of the principles and practices of assessment in a learning and development context.
You will complete one core unit to achieve the qualification: Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment
This unit contains learning on the following elements of assessment:
1.1 explain the functions of assessment in learning and development: The roles of initial assessment, formative assessment and summative assessment
1.2 define the key concepts and principles of assessment: assessment as a process, what is meant by validity and reliability, the role of evidence and authenticity, sufficiency and currency of assessment, the importance of objectivity and fairness to learners and the importance of transparency for the learner
1.3 explain the responsibilities of the assessor: planning and carrying out assessments, communicating assessment requirements, making and recording assessment decisions, providing feedback, taking part in standardisation processes and continuing professional development
