Our 110 Stories continues with a quick interview with Errol Baptiste. Before coming to Fircroft, Errol worked as a Postal Worker in the East London District Office and was an anti-apartheid activist during the 1980s. During the early 1990s, Errol came to Fircroft and experienced life on our campus. Since becoming an alumni of Fircroft in 1991, Errol has gone on to achieve many things. In the 29 years that have passed, Errol has gone on to study at Middlesex University, write nine books and has over 15 years of acting credits! An impressive resume, we’re sure you will agree.

Let’s take some time to get to know Errol and what advice he has for current students.

1) When were you a student at Fircroft?

I was a student at Fircroft College from September 1990 at the age of 26 until June 1991.

2) How did Fircroft help you prepare for life beyond studying

My journey at Fircroft College has helped me to prepare for life beyond studying also becoming a better person and the chance to develop better relationships and discussions.

3) How did Fircroft impact you?

My own experience at Fircroft College have made a huge impact on me as a mature student also had previous experience working at East London District Post Office for 18 months from March 1989 to September 1990 before arriving at Fircroft.

4) How did you feel before you came to Fircroft, and how has this changed?

It was a very new challenge for me also had the experience as an anti-apartheid activist back in the mid- 1980s also shaped me before coming to Fircroft College in 1990, I have been through adversity and rejection that has motivated me by moving forward.

5) What's the best piece of advice you could give to students?

Never give up, be yourself by sticking to your goals and be discipline with clear aims and objectives

6) What's your biggest achievement at Fircroft; what was your biggest success?

My biggest achievement at Fircroft that I was elected on the Board of Governors with another student by serving the full one year and served as Sports Secretary of the Students Union for 2 terms was a success.
