This course is for men and women from new communities, refugees or asylum seekers who may have lived experience of modern slavery, trafficking and/or trauma. If you are an organisation working with people who meet this criteria, please contact us as we would be willing to explore adapting our delivery slightly, if needed, to meet cultural and personal needs. However, all students must meet the residential requirements for this course

You must be able to stay overnight at the college on the days that have lessons.

About the course

This course is for people over the age of 19 from new communities. It can help you to reflect on your next steps, learn about British culture and values, gain skills and knowledge for employment, improve your English language skills and help you to move forward.

What you will learn

  • Learning about employability skills and employment law
  • Wellbeing and confidence
  • Computer skills and presenting to a group of people
  • Some gardening using our 6 acres of gardens
  • Some English language teaching
  • And more

All learners enrolling on 2026/27 courses will use laptops, tablets and other digital technology as part of their learning

Entry Requirements

You must be working at Entry-Level 3 English language, or higher. We will give you an English language assessment before the course starts, to ensure you would be fully able to benefit from this course.

You must be over the age of 19 years old by 31st August 2026

There are other entry requirements that we will need to check with you.

As part of your course, you will receive careers support to help you think about your next steps and future goals.
This includes:

  • Online access to our Careers and Progression Hub through our website
  • A printed and online Careers and Progression Resource Pack, including information and guidance on:
    • different job sectors and career pathways
    • searching and applying for jobs
    • writing a professional CV
    • interview preparation and tips
  • Invitations to lunchtime careers workshops on Tuesdays or Fridays
  • Career focused enrichment sessions every month
  • One careers-focused session delivered by our Careers and Progression Coordinator
  • Access to careers information and guidance throughout your course
  • The opportunity to book a 1-1 with the Careers and Progression Coordinator for extra support or advice around your plans and goals
  • A progression day with relevant organisations to help you explore opportunities.
