Our Functional Skills English Level 2 course is designed to enhance your essential communication skills for real-world scenarios. This course focuses on three key areas: reading, writing, and speaking and listening.

We recommend you apply for our other Functional Skills courses if you do not already have these qualifications as they are useful certificates to have for work and volunteering, as well as enhancing your everyday essential skills

All of our Functional Skills English courses are FREE to everyone.

Times

You must attend every Tuesday.

There will be no lesson on Tuesday 28th October due to Half Term

1.30pm – 5.00pm

Reading Skills: Improve your ability to quickly locate information through skimming and scanning techniques. Engage in close reading to understand and interpret complex texts, ensuring you can extract detailed information and grasp nuanced meanings.

Writing Skills: Learn to write effectively for various purposes and formats. Whether it’s formal letters, reports, or emails, you’ll gain the skills to communicate clearly and appropriately in different contexts. Emphasis is placed on structure, tone, and clarity.

Speaking and Listening: Enhance your verbal communication through group discussions and presentations. Practice articulating your ideas confidently and listening actively to others. Build your ability to engage in meaningful conversations and present information clearly

To gain this qualification you will need to complete all three elements – Reading Skills; Writing Skills; Speaking and Listening

How this course can help you

Level 2 Functional Skills is equivalent to a pass in GCSE English Language and is considered the ‘golden ticket’ to many employment and higher education opportunities.

Entry Requirements

You must be working at Level 1 literacy, or above and may be given an initial assessment for us to understand the level you are working at. If you do not meet the requirements for this course, we do offer Functional Skills English courses at other levels that you are welcome to apply for.
