Food Service Assistant

Scale 1 - £9.30 per hour
Full Time role available (37.5 hours per week)
Must be flexible to work varying hours between Monday – Sunday, 7.30am – 7pm

Fircroft is a residential college occupying a former Cadbury family home, set in six acres of beautiful grounds in Selly Oak, Birmingham. We were originally founded to provide educational opportunities for some of the most disadvantaged and excluded members of society. One hundred years on from the birth of Fircroft College, its mission of ‘social justice’ is more relevant than ever. We are looking to appoint a Food Service Assistant to complement our existing team.

We are a diverse college and particularly welcome applicants for this role who have a background in cooking a range of diverse dishes and ethnic cookery. This role will join our small and friendly kitchen team, who are passionate about the mission of the college. You will support with the preparation and serving of food, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness in the dining room, common room and kitchen.

To be considered for this role you must have experience of working in a busy kitchen environment and be able to prepare and cook a range of food. You must also have a basic food hygiene certificate, a sound understanding of health and safety legislation and excellent customer service skills, which enable you to deal with a range of people. It is desirable that you would have a level 2 NVQ or similar level of training, and experience of working in an education environment.

The right person will be someone who is flexible, enjoys working at a fast pace, with a strong work ethic, who works well in a team and enjoys working to high standards. 

Sustainability and climate change is high up on the agenda in our kitchen, so an interest or passion for environmental issues would be an advantage, although not essential.
